The Karani washing station is part of the Kabare Coöperatief. There are 634 farmers who deliver their coffee to the washing station, half of which is female. Karani lies on the edge of the Mount Kenya forest, where the subsoil often consists of volcanic ash. The farmers are eager to learn and are enthusiastic about their craftsmanship. They also grow tea and macadamia nuts in addition to coffee.
